ASHVIEW HEIGHTS NEIGHBORHOOD AND LOCALITIES

Ashview Heights is one of Atlanta’s first planned developments built for Atlanta’s African American middle-class community in the 1920s. It is located in the southwest corridor of the City of Atlanta, and has had a rich Agricultural History starting in 1995 with the Ashview Community Garden. Then led by Robert and Martha Abensett, it paved the way for organizations such as Truly Living Well, and Wecycle Atlanta to continue to grow food and community through a food system that includes farm land, electric shuttles, and a brick and mortar food hub.

The acquisition of this building will give us a strategic location to serve 6 low socioeconomic neighborhoods in what is deemed  “Institution Rich”, “Farm Rich”, and “Transit Rich” areas. Within a three-mile radius of the building’s location you find 26 institutions including the Atlanta University Center, 5 Bus lines, 9 transit rail stations, and less than a quarter mile away from the shop you can find Interstate 20, and the Atlanta Beltline. Lastly, within a 2-mile radius the area boasts the largest consortium of black led urban farms, 6 in total.

The community is home to The Historic Washington Highschool, Martin Luther King Jr’s alma mater, and M. Agnes Jones Elementary school, the only STEAM certified Atlanta Public School. The area is also in a designated “Opportunity Zone”  and “Choice Neighborhood” by the Federal Housing Authority.

It’s walkable Beltline Community with alternative access to so many amenities makes the community prime for positive social and economic development.
